Limited attention has been paid to the
recovery of groundcover vegetation after eruption of a volcano. Species
richness of groundcover plant communities in Kalikuning area of Mount Merapi
was investigated one year after 2010 eruption. Species richness was described
with species-accumulation curves. Different species richness estimators were calculated
using EstimateS and used to
extrapolate species richness beyond the data collected. Species-accumulation
curve reached saturation as the number of sample increased. Observed species
richness was 72 species in Kalikuning area. Based on estimators, species
richness was higher than observed, estimated between 81 to 104 species. The
Bootstrap richness estimator was considered most appropriate to predict the
number of species at the study site if sampling were continued.
